Introducing Our First Featured Artist: Beth Rufener

Meet Beth

We’re thrilled to introduce Beth Rufener, our very first featured artist at God’s Fingerprints.

Beth lives in Ohio with her husband and four children, where she combines her love of art and Scripture to create beautifully hand-lettered pieces that glorify God.

A Labor of Love — “His Name Shall Be Called

Beth’s breathtaking artwork, His Name Shall Be Called, features 55 Names of God intricately hand-illustrated and interwoven in shimmering gold.

When we launched this piece on Kickstarter in May, it was fully funded in just two hours—a beautiful reflection of how deeply it resonated with people of faith.

This artwork has been close to Beth’s heart for more than two decades. The idea first came to her as a teenager, and over the years it grew into a personal journey of reflection, worship, and devotion.

“This artwork was a profound labor of love to create, and it is abundantly woven through with scriptural meaning. I hope you study it with curiosity, count the names of God, and enjoy all of the layers that make up this artwork — the visual, the spiritual, and the symbolic.”

Our First Collaboration

Our partnership with Beth began in a unique way — with the design of our shipping tubes. Her elegant lettering and thoughtful approach helped set the tone for our brand’s packaging.

From there, our creative collaboration continued to grow. Beth later designed several free hand-lettered prints for our free print section, including fan favorites like:

I Will Strengthen You - Isaiah 41:10

Shelter of the Most High - Psalm 91:1

Other Works You Might Recognize

Beth also created our popular Jeremiah 29:11 artwork, a beautiful reminder of God’s promise and purpose.

And we’re not done yet — next month, we’re excited to release two new pieces by Beth. You can get a sneak peek here.

Artist Interview: Beth Rufener

1. What originally inspired you to create hand-lettered artwork rooted in Scripture?

After resolving to improve my handwriting, I began teaching myself hand-lettering in 2014. Scripture immediately seemed like the perfect source of text with which to practice. I doodled during church sermons, finding the house of God to be a particularly inspiring environment. Over the years, I’ve gotten so many different creative sparks from lettering under the sound of the Word, and have been inspired to create artwork ranging from simple scripture verses to themed hymn books. After more than 10 years of lettering, the scriptures continue to feel like home, like an old friend, and a gift of artistic and spiritual inspiration that keeps on giving.

2. When you first heard about this project, what drew you to it?

This piece has been in my head for two decades, sparked by an inspiring list of God’s names that I once saw displayed in a family member’s home. I was a teenager just beginning my walk with God, and I was especially interested in lists and other study aids to enhance my meditation of the Word. The “Names of God” poster struck me as an especially thought-provoking art piece, a beautiful and unique way to glorify God. As a young artist, I got a spark of inspiration to someday create a similar art piece including the names of God that were especially meaningful to myself and my family.

That spark of inspiration from my teenage years never left my heart. So when Jason from God’s Fingerprints reached out to me with an idea to illustrate the names of God, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.

3. Can you share a little bit about your creative process for His Name Shall Be Called?

Creative inspiration came from several angles. I had recently helped design a mailing tube for God’s Fingerprints, and loved the symmetry, nature aesthetic, and symbolism that we poured into the design. I wanted to approach this design with similar goals: to create something deeply symbolic, layered with purpose and meaning, that would delight the soul.

With “His Name Shall Be Called,” I wanted God’s creation to be the starting point, so I began sketching vines and flowers, gradually building in empty spaces where future typographical elements and other illustrations would go. The sketch exploration in a symmetrical piece like this is much like building a puzzle — playing with space and shapes and making everything fit together aesthetically, without worrying about fine details.

After the vine structure was mapped out, I began working in the lettered names of God in loose handwriting. During initial exploration, I chose around 12–13 names of God that were meaningful to me, though ultimately, the design was expanded to allow space for 55 names. Placing the names themselves was also a highly intentional process. My goal was to create visual balance while also placing each name in a meaningful way. I wanted certain names to appear at the top, with those of special power in the center. Some names were reflected on the opposite sides of their counterparts (e.g., Lamb of God and Lion of Judah).

After the names of God were placed, I was ready to hone down the illustrative elements. Each flower and illustration was thoughtfully derived from the Scripture — from the Psalms to the prophets to the miracles of Jesus and beyond — pointing back to who God is.

4. Was there a specific name of God that stood out to you personally while working on this piece?

All 55 of these names of God have become so special to me through this artistic journey. However, I found the “Immanuel” / “God with Us” pairing particularly meaningful — besides being satisfying to craft and place. This name and its meaning is a beautiful reminder of God’s love for us, so deep that He sent His Son to live on Earth and die for us. God continues to be with us in a personal way, dwelling in each believer’s heart, guiding our steps, and loving us with an everlasting love.

5. What do you hope people experience when they see this artwork hanging in their home?

My hope is that this artwork draws people closer to God — that every glance reminds them of His power, His compassion, and His presence. I pray that seeing these 55 Names of God inspires worship, reflection, and a deeper awe of who He is.

6. Is there anything else you’d like to share from your heart about this project?

This artwork was a profound labor of love to create, and it is abundantly woven through with scriptural meaning. I hope you study it with curiosity, count the names of God, and enjoy all of the layers that make up this artwork — the visual, the spiritual, and the symbolic. I pray this piece will be uplifting, intriguing, and thought-provoking to all those who see it. I pray that these 55 wonderful names provoke you to meditate on who God is, and increase your awe of Him. Above all, may His Name Shall Be Called glorify and honor God.
